C for Crybabies

So close...and yet so far! The two day extravaganza couldn't have got a better conclusion - a photo finish.

Sledging and scuffling knew no bounds. Tempers ran high. Higher ran the emotions.

The scoreline read 9-9. Football happened to be the decider - penalty shootouts at that. A cliffhanger. A nail-biting sensation. And the JOKArs won it 5-4.

The winners failed to win the hearts though. Cribbing, complaining and crying never seemed to die. Sportsman spirit was something they might never have heard of. The following two examples show how ridiculous they were.

1. Internet. On the field.

Our goalie was injured during the match. The swelling on his wrist had beyond doubt rendered him incapable of performing his duties anymore. As a result, we had to have a different one. The cribbing started. A new rule in football suddenly seemed to be in the air. The goalie change was opposed and how! The game had to be stopped for half an hour because the buggers were checking out the rules on the internet...on the field!!!!!! The official FIFA rules seemed to have no mercy for the cribbers who finally had to accept the rationality.

2. LOL!

Can a group of postgraduate students in management be this pathetic??!!??!! The women's volleyball was stalled for more than an hour. The reason: they wanted the rules to be changed. They wanted to do away with the rotating serve because they had only two who could serve!! The arguments were as hilarious as they could get. Imagine: Indian cricket team captain goes to the umpire and says only two of the eleven can bowl and wants each of them to bowl 25 overs each!! ROFL! The referee had to intervene when the stalemate seemed to last forever. He, logically, refused to pay their "concerns" any heed. The losers didn't even give it a shot and gave us a walk-over!

Losers...who won the trophy but lost the respect!

P.S. Amidst all this high-adrenaline drama, the staging of 'Red Black'(link) happened to kick ass. We rocked the show!!

  1. You're right. It's not enough to win the race if you lose the respect. Anyhow, this was expected. In my opinion, they were driven more by the fear of losing the trophy than they were by the desire to win it. Imagine being amongst the first sports team in a long time to lose the trophy and leave it behind at XLRI? They'd probably get expelled and ostracised upon their return to IIM.

The important thing is that apart from the obvious cry-babies and the over-enthusiastic cheer-leaders, there were some who were genuine sportsmen. And off the field, after the match, most XLers (even the audience) went to shake hands with the opponents. It's heartening to see that we don't kick a man when he's down. :)

  2. The second incident was really hilarious....the one thing i never understand y even dignified guys fall so low during a match just to win it...? anyways three cheers to ur sportsmanship sir :)

  3. Sportsmenship matters. Win or lose gives a pleasure 4 a moment. And then ? If u win the respect then it remains forever..............

  9. Gosh! unfair home advantage! this calls for another instance...

6.30 pm. The lights go out all over jamshedpur. Even our play Red-Black that was to be staged at 7 almost got cancelled. Somehow the generators were arranged and the play got staged. Now listen to the crybabies: WE MADE THE LIGHTS GO OUT IN XLRI TO STALL THE TOURNAMENT!!!! ROFL! This is the unfair home advantage they were talking about!

Cry, Complain, Crib...you Chickens! The results couldn't have been closer : 9.66-9.33!!!!

  12. First things first I'd have to admit that XL IIMC was the most competitive thing I have seen in my life. I think in the heat of the moment and with the pressure of expectations on them (Gurdit has done a good job with this point) coupled with the fact that they were not really supported by their admin for this (they did not even have their Jerseys man) they did things that they would not have done otherwise. Do you really think that guys from a PREMIER B-School like IIM 'C*****' would try all kinds of cheap tricks to win. Obviously they won't they just did it whenever they knew they had trouble coming.
I im 'Cheater' 4 life seems like a good slogan for them... the girls volleyball or girls TT or Football, the examples are numerous.
Sports apart they were even involved in an incident at Dadu's, need we say something else. One of them questioned our 'class' on a comment, we may say a few things but those are only tools to create the environment which gets the best and worst out of players. These guys actually are classless...IIM 'Classless'.
They do definately have a quota for students, OBC's or not I am not too sure, animal lovers are surely in (remember Basky ka Bhaloo cum P**)
After everything they did (with the funny celebrations and shouting) I just cannot wait to get the trophy back and in the process kicking their fat a$$es.
BTW I think our cheering squad did a fine job in all the events that took place at XL and helped pressure them....XL RIP or not, next year for sure IIM-C will get ripped.

    ReplyDelete
  13. ah! well said! poor buggers under the immense load of expectations did actually manage to win the trophy (though they had almost lost it)! the kind of things they did/said were unbecoming of them. the heat of the moment doesn't make anyone a cheating 'C'*nt!

The XL-IIMc meet rocked even thought the trophy slipped off our hands. Its coming back next year!!

  14. I suppose everything has been written about how disgusting the Jokars were. But was anyone there when they were singing their anthem? It sucked huge time. No sportsmens spirit and no decent enough song to make thier anthems.

    Suckers.

  15. First things first. Nice blog you got.

I've heard a lot about the rivalry. My bro was an XLer (2000BM). IIMC junta has always been chickens and they always will be.

    Hail XL. Hail XL-IIMC meet.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Er... Did u guys not do away with Rotation during Men's Volleyball? That was the rationale given to u for doing away with it in Women's volley too.

Anyway. U've been crying since the day u cudn't make it to an IIM, and u shall keep crying forever :P

    ReplyDelete
  20. What was the rotation rule for men's volleyball? There, XL was against rotation despite IIMC asking them to allow it. Why should rules for women's volley would be any different? But, I dont think I would like to indulge in any XL bashing.

I guess we need to realize that tempers are bound to run high in such a closely contested sports meet with such a historic tradition. Writing such articles after the meet only increases animosity after the event and runs in bad taste. I seriously hope that a few people by writing such blogs do not tarnish the entire XL community as 'cry babies'.

    ReplyDelete
  21. @ anand: dude, i reallllly hope u understand englisha nd can comprehend a paragraph! it was only abt the IIMs...it would take the earth away from under your feet to know that i got thru not just IIM-C but IIM B,L,I,K and C...and I preferred to come to XL! Now howzzat?? You want proof? http://www.time4education.com/finalists/files/cat08C.htm

@ mind current: take some more time, dude...try coming up with something funnier...i know you can do it...trust me!!

@ nitin: there both the teams' captains agreed to it because both the teams saw some benefit out of it. When both teams don't agree, even a kindergarten kid who hasnt cleared CAT would support playing by the standard rules! Come on guys grow up! if a stalemate is reached, standard rules apply!!
    !

    ReplyDelete
  22. @ shreyans: both captains agreed to it dude...removal of rotation!! a team that checked internet for rules on the field can never be this big hearted to allow something their team doesnt agree to...GET YOUR FRIGGIN FACTS RIGHT!!

and its pretty evident who are crybabies...a bunch of JOKArs on my blog..."justifying" themselves despite winning!!!

    GET A LIFE, you morons!

Anyway, Why don't you put up a scanned copy of your offer letter on your blog, and shut us all up? Or rather, just give me your CAT TR No, and I shall do the honours of finding it out for myself from the Admissions office. :)

  29. So IIM-C won the trophy... again
But failed to win hearts, respect etc
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems to me that IIM-C won the only thing that they saw was worth winning.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I think all that matters is IIM C kicked some crybaby XL a$$ ...
Read the scoreline , C defeated XL on their home ground with rules manufactured to suit the home team ...

As far as Mango here is concerned if he really had an IIM C call and still joined XL that just shows that the aptitude tests can never really measure stupidity , can they ?

.. one funny thing I noticed .. XL still needs alumnus sister's to root for them and validate their points

  31. So a sports secy running into a basky field to stop a match because they are losing and women's volley match has not started is complete sportsmanship !!

we know that neither of us are international players to play only by intl rules, n thats y we accepted it during men's volley... women's volley was included from ur side and u werent ready to play a team tat was formed 2 days back with rules by which men's team played... "win at any cost" ... tat was some character and sportsmanship... even in cricket the visiting intl teams play warm up test matches with 13 players on each side... nothing was international abt this event...

we gave in to watever u wanted n v still won!!

losing with a close margin is hard but learn to take it in the right spirit....

@ nitin: never thought i would have to do that but just check out my blog at 10pm tonight baby! you'll have the scanned copy and the TR number. My lectures end at 2115 and it would be first thing i would do as i head back to the hostel! LMAO!!!

@ krishna: how funny...bhaang ka gola tha...nitrous oxide tha...duh!! bhaiyon, sense of humour kya CAT dete hi khatam ho jata hai?

@ Saagar: Tuu toh sabse bada heera nikla! Apni hi maar li! We guys belive in winning hearts and respect...sorry that you don't.

@ the fingers: glad to see something written like it makes sense :) now answering one by one, the keeper was injured, man! he has a swollen wrist...now i cant check this out for you on the inernet! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! har cheez ko prove toh nahi kar saktey na warna uski bhi scanned copy laga deta!! ROFL!!!!

it wasnt a request, mister. it was an agreement that both the teams agreed to. just imagine, a team that can go to a hostel room or check the internet on the filed for a rules whether a goalie change is allowed or not, can it EVER agree to any request?

regarding stopping the basky game, the referees had to go home and were making repeated requests. we had to solve the issue first. they were no b-school students. midnight is a high time they reached home. We just ensured that!

you guys didnt have the balls to play by the ref's rules...pathetic!

regarding comments, thats wot i'm wondering...regardless of winning the trophy (anyhow!) you people are still haunting this blog and making mockery of yourselves. the mockery will go to disproportionate levels when i'l give you the TR number and you admissions office will tell you something that will, in nitin's terms, shut you all up!!

  35. Good to see your blog and to hear your side of things.

    Here's what I think

    1. Only players who were on the pitch at the end of play are allowed to take kicks. A substitution can only be made in the case of injury to a goalkeeper during the kicks. (Was he injured during the kicks?? Because I believe XL wanted a new goalkeeper for the shootout :) )

    2. Lol

C didn't want the rules changed... XL did. We wanted the same rules you used for Mens volley, i.e without rotation (which you asked for because you had only one spiker - its a different thing you lost that too). However, you wanted the official rules for womens volley so we gave you a walkover...which i think is pretty fair, as in we didnt agree to the rules so we gave you the match. What more do you want?? :)

    3. Your referee intervened and how...he stopped AOE, and mens basky to settle women's volley rules, which we gave you a walkover in...because you were losing both the events?? :) Thats very sporting of him.

    4. You wouldnt play without power. You wouldnt play till the play (Red Black) got over and you wouldnt play anything because everything wouldn'thave been complete till the time we had to leave, so the only possible events were AOE and men's basky which you were losing, hence the ref stopped everything, and when we said we're willing to miss the train, you said complete everything before 2AM because you can't play anymore (fyi, the train was at 1:45) so why stop us for an extra 15 minutes and make us miss the train??

    5. Yes, we may not have the best t-Shirts, but i guess if I had to choose between the t-shirt and the trophy, I'd choose the trophy.

So bring it on next year. Bring on better t-shirts and better slogans. And i'm sure C will still win. We can outplay and outshout you in Xl, we'll XLRIP you in C :) And hey, do be sporting. Notice who says that the most? :)

..If you really have balls in your pants than win on the ground.
Also given the rants going on here by XLRIPPed ppl, who looks like a cry baby would be obvious even to a non-involved third party....

  37. I know one thing that the XL guys are too weak at management... And because of that IIMC had to miss their train. Any KINDERGARTEN kid, in time constraint situation, would suggest to organize events simultaneously. but the nuts of XL wanted girls volley first and then girls basky and then men basky then footy and AOE. What a managerial skills...

  43. @MangoMan: first of all, got to hand it to XL for the close finish. I was not there at the finals, but can understand your agony of having lost out in a close finish, I can even understand the emotions flowing through your mind and your argument regarding IIM C's issue with the technicalities. However, I think your view and the language you have used in your blog smack of arrogance rather than humility. For instance, calling IIMCians "JOKArs" and cribbing throughout your blog as to how they raised up (supposedly frivolous) issues. Put yourself in the their shoes and think for a moment...wouldnt u have done the same? If your answer is Yes, then it negates your entire reasoning till now. And if your answer is No (which I think it will be), then rather than wasting time on a loser's sore note, start preparing for next year's battle so that you can indeed get home the trophy along with the respect that you seek. But my gut feel is you'll win neither!

  45. @ d_tox: prashant didn’t take a kick. m sorry but I didn’t understand.
All I know dat the goalie was injured. kindly re-post ur point explaining.
we want nothing more…all I am saying is datyou cant take my right of making fun of a ridiculous thing away from me, can you? All the stopping of games was done because of the referees’ going home and the very fact that you didn’t give us any guarantee that you would stay if u won the basky match. the scores till then were level at 7-7 and it was wise to clarify things first.

how can one play without power? and the play was scheduled much before the last minute XL-IIMC meet was. you knew it beforehand that no games will be played during the time the dram will be staged, didn’t you? so y dis point?

and y to choose between the two? cant u have both???? :D

@ arun: “rants going on here by XLRIPPed ppl”!!!!! this is the most hilarious thing I’ve ever heard in my life and I’m pretty sure it can never be surpassed. Just count the number of JOKArs out here commenting/ranting/crying and compare it with the number of XLers…I’m just one!!!!!!!!!! I can just die of laughing it seems!
20 odd people ganged up against one and still arguing like shit…dude did you really clear your group discussions???

    ReplyDelete
  46. you seem to be bugged by the comments made by IIM C people on your blog, well as a good blogger you should be ready to take all types of comments and not crib on them. If you have your point argue with it.., and be happy for getting more viewership :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. Errr, Mango dude, one small question. How many IIMC blogs have u seen reporting about the event?
So who is the cry baby and cribber now, I forget.

    ReplyDelete
  48. The irony does not escape me that a blogger ranting about things long after the tournament is done and dusted , is calling someone else a Crybaby.(And a common point in all his rants being, that all the disagreements went in XL's favor anyway)

Don't you think you are being a wee bit hypocritical?

    ReplyDelete
  49. @ fingers: Well I’m commenting because its my blog! and I’ve replied to everything here till date :)

Chalo fir no point discussing the issue. Glad to finally see some honesty :)

Exactly. You agreed because your performance would have been better as well. Now when the sides don’t agree, whats the solution?? the standard rules.

I never said that, man! All I am hinting towards is dat the heat of the moment, it was impossible to trust each other. You saw the rules on the field(which was funny to the bystanders for the game like us and hence I posted on the blog). No issues with that. It was sensible but funny enough to put up on the blog.

Regarding the game stopping, I have commented on the last comment. So no point repeating. And yes, I feel making sure where things were heading was the sensible thing to do.

for hockey wala logic: I really felt you were the only sensible commenter out here (including me)…but now what you are comparing it with? I dun even feel like commenting back on this!!

exactly, that was the heat of the moment. you guys did some really silly things in paranoia in XL and all I did was put those up on the blog. and of all the people out here, I am the one who is least bent on proving which college is better. there were some cartoons doubting my admission in IIMC (which would be clarified soon). ab tuu bata bhai, how is dat ever related to the ongoing discussion. kuch samjha unko.
    For you, honestly, RESPECT! \m/

  50. @ unknown: quite the contrary, sir! As a good blogger, I am ready to take all types of comments. If it was otherwise, I have the authority to delete any comment from the blog or simply don’t let any comment get published. But I’m choosing to let all get published and replying back that I assure you that I’ll always do. :)

@ Saucerer: Errr, I didnt "cry" when I reported the event, bugger! I laughed. LOL means "Laughing out loud". Dont count the blogs. Count the number of JOKArs here crying, complaing and cribbing about every single thing I've written - Even on other posts not related to the meet. LMAO!

    ReplyDelete
  51. @ nitin: dude, you surpass your levels of stupidity everytime. Are you high or something? I posted it yesterday. It was because of a poosrly co-ordinated attack by some JOKArs ranting (whose rants went in favour of their college as well, logically enough), I had to reply.

Someone is sitting in peace in Jamshedpur. A bunch of semi-logical, bordering on ridculously insane individuals attack the blog all of a sudden and start arguing. And you call me a crybaby.

  56. @varun (im guessing thats your name).. why not take things in the right spirit?... in sports things happen, w/e it is, it is supposed to die down once the tournaments over.... i think the tradition of xl-iimc deserves to be continued, and creating animosity just takes the spirit in which it shud be played out of it...

the tournament is over, now just let things die... stop worrying/complaining.. and obviously if u post about a institute, especially after they've won, their bound to retort... am sure Xl has its own goods, and we have our own merits... nothing u say or i say is gonna change of what people percieve of our institutes...

if u feel u deserved to win, (which isn't conveyed in the blog btw), prepare yourself and come prepared to beat us here next year.... blogging (whining?) after the event not really the best way to go about trying to beat iim-c is it?...

    NoM

Grow up kid, learn to appreciate the achievement of others.
*kewal iimc jane se dimag ki height nahi badhegi, attend some VKG classes, u seriously need it.

  60. 32 people attacking a blog. I guess that's a little more of your IIM-C sportsmanship spirit. :)

I didn't read all the comments. It's obvious that many of them are just venting. But some of the comments are fine.

At the end of the day, remember one thing:
Every argument's going to have two sides, and both sides are going to have their own strong points. The sad thing is that in the middle of all this, the spirit of the game has been corroded. Apparently, the only thing that matters is getting one over your neighbours. If this is what the XL-IIMC sports meet has become, it's a shame.

    Anyway.

  61. @ dharmarajanpaul: I dont think they will anymore :)
@ gurdit: hehe...but well said! the spirit of the game is an unheard entity in the XL-IIMC meet. but dun u think for once, it shud be like dis? we love it, dun we? if there'll be some instances we'll recollect down the future, XL-IIMC will surely be one of those :)

  62. Guys, relax...if it has stopped..let it be.. i don't intend to start it off once again.. it just doesn't help to open up the wounds, which i m sure any losing side would have...We played to win and that was what made the event so much fun..don't spoil that by pointing fingers..There wud be no end to this and wud only amount to worsen the relations..As hosts, you would want better than that right?

  63. yahi toh hilarious hai bandhu...it seems the winning sides has more wounds! but darn it!

  64. One thing IIM C (call it whatever folks!, except dear Calcutta) can never have is a "Culture". Wonder how these machine-trained, quota-cleared students manage to be so arrogant and hypocritical.

@Varun: Rock On! \m/ Show these poor souls how to get a life :)

  69. dats looooong!

regarding volley: I’ve said enough. no comments from now on, coz, honestly, neither of us have any new arguments. no point repeating it a million times. Just re-read the comments above.

for the last time, I never said we were on a moral high ground or XL is better than XL. ALL I MERELY ID WAS MAKE FUN OF SOMETHING RIDICULOUS YOU GUYS DID! phew!

even you said that everyone was playing to win. how could we trust, and you will agree to it, that you guys wont leave after the basky match if you won it? there were enough murmurs of the same from your camp, bro!
WHEN ON EARTH DID I TALK ABOUT BEING SAINTS? Can you please quote from the post or the comments? If you cant, please stop commenting here for the love of God and stop making a dolt of yourself. Have you heard about something called freedom of expression? That’s what I did. Two instances that made me laugh like hell. And crybabies from your side had a problem with that as well. Bloody moral policing from your side, you Thackerays! Cant you let anyone make fun of you, Mussolinis?

I didn’t put it up for y’all. If you go through my blog, I scribble about absolutely random stuff with no fixed intention in mind.

Dekh fir se, better college wali baat!! Get a Life! As Rushika rightly pointed out on the more recent post, your only claim to fame is your clearing CAT! Just because you didn’t (or did, who cares!) have the balls to clear XAT doesn’t mean IIM-C is better than XL. There are better forums to discuss this issue than a sports field, itna toh maanega???

@ ashish: maine kya kiya :P
    @ mukesh: \m/

  79. Hey, what happened this year? Did u guys fulfill ur promise of 'Ripping' us? Guess not.. 13-3 was pretty bad eh. 35-5 after 40 years of rivarly, I marvel at your capacity to get humiliated.

What's ur excuse this time? Have u put up a sad whining blog complaining abt something again?
