The Powerpuff Girl!

Breaking News: Heavy duty girl power on display

XLRI, Jan 30-31. Roars of applause on every sentence completed. Shouts of "Unfair" on every below the belt blow to her by "the brotherhood". A brave face, a new face. A fresh zing to everything - a desi tadka. A need for change that suddenly got a voice. Attacks involving unchartered territories fended incredibly. Nervous home team. This was the scene in the Father Prabhu Hall during the marathon elections.

Calm. Composed. One-woman army screwed them all who ganged up against one brave soul who didn't just have the dream but actually gathered up the guts to be the only one who stood up against the "system".

Had the previous show involving six protagonists and six hundred questions - majorly by the candidates' proxies themselves - been a little less unbearable; had people not been off to BishuDa for a quick smoke and tea; had they witnessed the racing-throttle-response by this hell of a lady I have an acquaintance with...who knows...it would have been the greatest upset in history!!!

Pyrrhic victory indeed!

  1. "Attacks involving unchartered territories"..
Dude, these "unchartered territories" is what she was aspiring to tackle..
No harm in asking her about that..

    And, attacks? Really ?
You have just witnessed your first elections.. Wait for more..

If she is candid enough to say that she did not apply anywhere because of fear of grades then I am sorry to say that she did not inspire so much confidence in me.. Again, a personal view.. :)

  2. Couldn't agree more...but she deserved a discount especially because of the fact that the committee in contention has a responsibility of keeping things confidential and her knowledge was far too limited...the way they ganged up against her was something deplorable.

The girl did some cool shit in her undergrad...her taking a back seat and concentrating on the prime purpose of admission is pretty understandable, especially after the hype and hoopla created concerning the first term. And the very fact that she's ready to voice her concerns after "adjusting" is something I find nothing wrong with.

To each his own... :)thnks fr taking time out and commeting :)

  3. She was a brave soul... Agree on that aspect. But bravery won't help alone.

There were a zillion things needed to rise above the rest, n she seriously lacked many... And that academics excuse seemed quite lame. Add to that a mute response to the question of contribution, the fate was sealed...

  4. didn't the other contender lacked a few things as well...will tushar's personality ever be matched?

and regarding the contribution, i believe she answered fine...she had contacts regarding the engineering jobs so she wouldn't be of much help whatsoeevr..

  5. Your "LMAO" question, in my opinion, was not an unfair question. If she has been interested in being the Placecom secretary, or even if she had been interested in joining Placecom, she should have kept herself up to date with the goings-on of the process, because she'd be conducting the next one.

That being said, I salute her, and I think she had a very strong candidature. She did a great job and had she won, it would have been a well-deserved victory. The problem was that the job requires two things -- good communication skills (or good personality) and experience. She was the stronger contender for one of those, and he was stronger for the other. The question was...what was more important? I guess people voted for that.

  6. I didn't want to be pitching in here, but who says it requires good communication skills? If that is the misconception you have guys, trust me, that is the last thing it requires.
And frankly, saying she was afraid of Gango is a populist answer (and not rational), saying the contacts were engineering contacts is an excuse (specially if you notice the number of software companies visiting the campus).
I believe more than the communication skills, what was working for her last night was her being an underdog. The world loves underdogs, doesn't it?
And the LMAO question was definitely below the belt, but in a way, more rational than other questions. I remember asking a particular committee the full form of their abbreviation in the last year's elections, and only 1 out of the 6 candidates knew it :P

  8. In that case even Anshuman's tuffie was a more valid question regarding her outlook...but such direct questions...suppose she would have answered the question (the answer to which could have been found out super-easily), would that have been enough to support her candidature? In fact, the question was a one-way road, not answering meant embarassment and answering it meant nothing!!!!

the experience could have been used in all directions as a placecomm member as well but as a secy, we needed someone who could rise above the rest, who has a certain charisma and who knows how to manoeuver a negotiating discussion in a desired directions and no doubts regarding ruchika's ability to do so given the gallant handling of questions.

how is that a populist answer!!!! it could have invited (and it sure did, as is evident) the wrath of the students but when thought of calmly, it was the most rational thing to do(she didn't apply to ANY committee, nt just PC)...gotta agree on the contributing part a bit though with you...she could have shared the contacts and let the PC members decide wt to do!

didn't know the abbreviation, bet it wz sapphire, crescent of fireax...i still dunno wt they stand for...but i miss being in that GBM last year! LOL!

The world loves underdogs, but worthy ones! Imagine an underdog without a spark...she would have been mocked big time had she not shown the spirit!

  10. Simple comment:The wrong person was selected. It was always gonna be impossible to beat the Placecomm candidate, mostly due to the seniors' paranoia about CRP.I still don't understand how Venky of all people was nominated. What was Placecomm thinking?

  11. Hmmm... campus season.. good luck buddy.. I belive I should remain away from commenting on the issue...

  12. It takes guts to stand up against a Pre-Planned attack. She was a greenhorn and yupps she may not be the ideal choice for Placecomm secretary. But again I think place-comm secy is too important a post to be decided by public opinion. what surprised me was how insecure the place-comm members were and the below the belts attack. Her answers were rational but the attitude shown by our seniors I am afraid to say were least encouraging. if they don't want any non placecommers not to get in then the election should not be held now and someone among those guys should be selected as the interim secy. There is no denying that they are doing a good job and there is no need to disturb the status-quo just before the CRPs.All said and done lets wait for the Place-comm member elections. I am sure that few heads are going to roll until some "divine intervention "takes place. But yeah congrats to our ex-secy Tusshar..he did a wonderful job yesterday.

  15. I loved her guts and honesty. Since when is publicly acknowledging fear of failure a failing in itself? I've been on four committees last year and I had, among other things, one F to show at the end of it... I, of all people, can understand why she kept away. Better no Placecomm member than a useless Placecomm member, which is what she believed she would have been, under the circumstances. Underdog sentiment, yes, but I can name atleast five people in your batch who could have stood up as underdogs and not received a iota of the support and appreciation she deserved! And I'm sure you can, too. Finally, an election rides on much, much more than one candidate or her/his background.

  16. I don't harp on things past, no matter how regrettable they be. This time is no exception.

I remember Meesam's warning about not letting friendship colour one's choice. It was unnecessary - there's no way to choose among your friends except true worth.

Three reasons why I'm convinced Ruchika is worthier.

One. PlaceComm thought so too. They wouldn't have allowed her candidature otherwise. And I know her past experiences in placing people in scenarios much worse contributed to this.

Two. She takes her work as seriously as her own self. She knows which risks to take, and takes them full on.
She gives nothing short of 100%. I know her to be an ace dancer - I went looking out for her when we needed dancers in SPIC. But she chose only to choreograph instead, because she believed she wouldn't do the piece full justice.

Three. I know the PlaceComm folks. They work their skins off. I understand their resentment to being led by an "outsider". But what they did proves the fact that the committee has become esoteric rather than plain cautious. There's no place for such things in XL.

We need Ruchika in Placecomm. Period. One needs three powers to succeed in anything - Iccha, Gnana, and Kriya. She has the will, she has the knowledge. Lets give her the power to do the job.

  17. @ ramaa: well said! honest admissions go a long way :)
@ ishita: now dats something! i wish people get to read your comments! lets give her the power :)

btw dis is from someone who doesn't want to disclose his identity:

"@ Gurdit : agree with u upto a point but if experience was the main thing that matters then maybe they shud change the rules and not allow anyone else except the junior members of the committee to even stand... :)... there is no point ganging up & having elections just for the heck of showing a democratic elections...

Whatever happens is for the best.. maybe this will actually change the way we all think... The amount of status msgs dedicated to this topic actually shows what everyone thinks about this..."
